The Associated PressQUITO, Ecuador (AP) - Rescuers on Wednesday found the bodies of two filmmakers whose small plane had been missing for six days over Ecuador's Galapagos Islands.
The bodies of American Bill Raisner and Canadian Noel Archental were found caught in the twisted wreckage of the small plane, which crashed Friday on the side of the Cerro Azul volcano on Isabela island, said Carlos Moncayo, the regional head of civil defense.
The U.S. Embassy could not confirm the victims' names or hometowns. A strong gust of wind may have forced the plane into the side of the volcano, Moncayo said. The men were working on a documentary on the famed island chain, located 600 miles west of mainland Ecuador. The island's unique wildlife helped Charles Darwin develop his theory of evolution.

An IMAX film crew has been filming a (reported) $10 million 3-D IMAX film Galapagos. They were working off of the Seward Johnson and were flying an amphibious ultra-light at 5:30 am South from Tagus Cove. After 4 hours, their fuel would have been depleted and they had not returned. They were going to film some land shots near Sierra Negra on Isabela. The craft is presumed down but there is no word on the fate of the film makers on board.

.c The Associated PressQUITO, Ecuador (AP) - A small plane carrying two documentary filmmakers - one America and one Canadian - disappeared over Ecuador's Galapagos islands, officials said Monday. The plane lost contact with flight authorities Friday while flying over the Sierra Negra volcano on San Cristobal island, part of the Galapagos island chain, about 600 miles west of the mainland, a navy spokesman said.
A U.S. Embassy spokesman said he did not know the names of the men. Rescuers were searching for the plane, but did not know if it made an emergency landing or crashed, the navy said.
