GALAPAGOS FILM WINS INTERNATIONAL AWARD

The film 'Dragons of Galapagos', by award winning Australian film-maker's David Parer and Elizabeth Parer-Cook, won the top award at the Wildscreen Film Festival held in Bristol, England from the 10th to the16th October. 'Wildscreen' is held biannually, with this year's event attracting a record 360 entries. The Golden Panda award is given by the festival jury to the best film overall.

The filming was shot in Galapagos over nearly 2 years from 1995 to 1997. Footage for a second story was filmed at the same time, and additonal material for this was shot over 10 weeks in early 1998 during one of the strongest El Nino events ever recorded. This film, 'Islands of the Vampire Birds', will be going to air in 1999, as will the 'Making of'' film of how the Parer family, which included their 3 year old daughter Zoe, and their team worked and lived amongst the fascinating wildlife of this remarakble archipelago. Most of the 'Making of ' footage was shot by local naturalist David Day, who worked with the Parers for the entire shoot, from the tops of the volcanoes, to the depths of the sea.
