Photographs from the Total Eclipse of Feb 26, 1998
by Richard Polatty
These were both taken with a totally manual Nikon F2A with a 400mm f/6.3 lens on 1000 ASA film. The photos were taken from the deck of the M/Y Parranda (about 100 ft vessel) and were all hand held. This necessitated swaying with the boat in the swell in order to follow the sun! The coronal photo was shot at 1/1000 sec and the diamond ring at 1/2000 sec. Compare these to the photos from Mexico. The major difference being that the motion of the ship blurred the coronal streamers here and the graininess of the film. (A necessary evil this time!) I'll add some more as they get processed.
Note the small prominence at about 7 o'clock.
Fabulous weather for the Eclipse in Galápagos!
